Remove VAT from London Taxis
Every licensed London taxi is legally required to carry wheelchair passengers. That vehicle costs approximately £77,500 — and is charged 20% VAT. The same specification vehicle, bought privately for a disabled passenger, is zero-rated for VAT. We're asking HM Treasury to apply the same zero-rating to licensed London taxis, in line with the precedent already set for privately purchased Wheelchair Accessible Vehicles.
By signing, you're telling HM Treasury: licensed taxis — mandatory wheelchair accessible, mandatory public service — should not be taxed more heavily than the same vehicle bought privately.
Cabs Into Camden
Licensed taxis are the only fully wheelchair accessible vehicle on London's roads, yet we're excluded from Tottenham Court Road all day, every day — forcing wheelchair passengers onto longer, costlier detours. Bank Junction faced the same exclusion for 7 years before the City of London reversed it in 2024 on accessibility, safety, and zero-emission grounds. We're asking Camden Council and the Mayor's office to apply the same standard here, and to reverse the no-left-turn restriction from Tottenham Court Road into Euston Road.
